The Brand-New 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe Unveiled

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe, expanding its midsize SUV series with a dynamic, elegant, and high-performance model. This unveiling comes shortly after the presentation of the new Mercedes-AMG GLC SUV last month. With its sporty silhouette and unique AMG features, this model is expected to be a highlight in Mercedes' portfolio, blending dynamic elegance with characteristic design elements.

Two Powerful Engine Options

GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe:

This model is the brand’s first performance hybrid SUV coupe, combining the AMG M139l 2.0-litre turbo engine with an Electric Drive Unit (EDU) on the rear axle, producing 671 hp and 752 lb-ft of combined torque. This enables acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe:

The entry-level model, with its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, yields a substantial 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, allowing for an acceleration to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Additionally, a system briefly provides an extra boost of 14 hp from the belt-driven starter generator (RSG) at lower engine speeds, enhancing efficiency and transitions between start-stop and coasting functions.

F1-Derived Battery Tech

The high-performance battery in the GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe draws inspiration from Formula 1™ technologies, offering a capacity of 6.1 kWh, 107 hp continuous power, and 201 hp peak power for ten seconds. The battery's innovative direct cooling, wrapping around all 560 cells, guarantees optimal performance and service life by maintaining uniform temperature control, ensuring even heat distribution, rapid energy consumption, high power density, and consistent availability of electrical power.

Advanced Exhaust Gas Turbocharger

Central to these models is the AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, integrating an electric exhaust gas turbocharger, a technology derivative of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. This turbocharger, operating via a 48-volt on-board electrical system, improves response across the rpm range, optimizing acceleration from a standstill and agility, with the GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE benefiting from a significantly larger turbocharger for enhanced performance.

Impressive AMG Design Elements

The GLC Coupe, featuring AMG-specific radiator trim and large air inlets, emanates a confident and sporty aura. It boasts precise side edges, powerful wheel arches, flush-fitting wheels in 20- or 21-inch formats, and two-part taillights that visually widen the rear view. The interior mirrors the sportiness with AMG seats in ARTICO / MICROCUT AMG microfiber, an AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather, AMG sports pedals, and illuminated door sills with AMG lettering.

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe, with its elegant and dynamic design, advanced technologies, and high performance, sets a new benchmark in the midsize series. The two powerful engine options, innovative F1-derived battery technology, and advanced exhaust gas turbocharger, coupled with the distinctive AMG design elements, make it a noteworthy addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup.

This model is designed for those who seek a sporty lifestyle, dynamic design, and impressive performance, guaranteeing the highest level of driving dynamics and pleasure. With options like the top model GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe offering innovative hybrid drive, the GLC Coupe promises a diverse range of driving experiences.

This luxurious, high-performing coupe, combining craftsmanship and the latest production methods, is expected to arrive in Canada in 2024, catering to the desires of those looking for distinctive design, innovative technology, and dynamic driving experience. Whether it's the sporty design, the state-of-the-art technology, or the unparalleled performance, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe is poised to be a remarkable presence on the roads.

Other Highlights of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe

  1. AMG RIDE CONTROL Suspension with Adaptive Damping Adjustment:

This technology features steel spring suspension, which continuously adapts the damping on each individual wheel according to current requirements, considering driving style, chassis level, and road surface condition. This enhances driving dynamics and long-distance comfort. It offers three damper maps – “Comfort”, “Sport”, and “Sport+” – to choose from.

  1. Active Roll Stabilization (AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL):

This feature, standard on certain models, compensates for body movements electromechanically, reducing rolling movements during cornering and allowing for more precise coordination of steering and load change behavior. It operates based on an additional 48-volt partial electrical system, offering faster response and lighter component weight compared to hydraulic-based systems.

  1. Three-Stage AMG Speed-Sensitive Steering and Standard Rear-Axle Steering:

This steering layout contributes to increased dynamics and comfort by adapting the steering geometry ratio to the selected driving program. It operates with a maximum steering angle of 2.5°, with rear wheels turning in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds up to 100 km/h, effectively shortening the wheelbase and improving maneuverability.

  1. AMG Sports Brake System and AMG Exhaust System:

The AMG sports brake system on the GLC 43 ensures optimal deceleration values and controllability with internally ventilated and perforated brake discs. The GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE features the AMG high-performance composite brake system, designed for maximum stability and very short braking distances even under heavy use. The AMG exhaust system provides a sporty engine sound, aligning with the high performance of the vehicle.

Each system's response behavior depends on the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program, adapting to deliver the hallmark AMG driving characteristics in terms of dynamics, precision, and feedback. Together, these technologies deliver a unique driving experience, balancing sportiness, comfort, and performance. They align to create vehicles that respond intuitively and promptly to driver inputs, offering unparalleled driving pleasure and safety.
