Mercedes-Benz EQB 2022, a 100% Electric Compact SUV

With its EQ lineup, the German automaker Mercedes-Benz is aiming for a greener future. While the EQS and EQE will fill spots in the electric sedan category, the Mercedes-Benz EQB will be an SUV aimed at families.

Learn more about its engine, design and advanced technologies.

Mercedes-Benz EQB: A Generous Electric Engine

Integrated into the chassis, under the floor of the new electric car, is a 66.5 kWh battery that powers the electric motor. This allows the vehicle to develop a generous 288 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Future variants would even exceed 268 horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system is part of the powertrain for confident driving in all conditions. Speaking of driving, there are three modes available depending on your desires:

  • Comfort
  • Eco
  • Sport

Fun behind the wheel is one of Mercedes-Benz’s strengths, and Stephanie Wallcraft, a journalist for Driving, confirms that the electric SUV is a success in this regard:

“Combined with the optional adaptive damping system and low center of gravity,
the EQB handles as well as any compact luxury SUV, if not better.”

As for range, the SUV is capable of traveling up to 419 km on a single charge for relaxed commutes. Moreover, it is compatible with 100 kW charging stations that allow it to regain 10 to 80% of its charge in 32 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV: A Subtle Upgrade

In terms of dimensions and features, the Mercedes-Benz EQB electric draws heavily on the GLB. While some brands focus on futuristic designs, Mercedes-Benz maintains a timeless style, and adds to it some modernized touches.

At the front, the EQB imitates the brand’s signature black grille. The LED headlights are connected by a light strip, a feature also found at the rear. Overall, the car’s lines have a smoother, more fluid look.

As for the 20-inch wheels, they feature a dynamic multi-spoke design, and there are also pink-gold wheels according to the production models revealed in Germany.

A Flexible Interior

Inside the Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV, you can choose between two configurations.

On the one hand, you can opt for a two-row cabin with 5 seats and plenty of room for every passenger. Headroom and legroom are excellent, as is trunk space.

On the other hand, a configuration has been designed for larger families: a 3-row cabin that can accommodate up to 7 passengers. This last row is spacious enough for 1.65 m tall passengers to be comfortable, but more importantly, it allows for the installation of baby seats. Some cargo space is sacrificed, but the seats fold down easily for additional cargo space.

We don’t yet know all the details of the interior layout of the upcoming vehicle in Canada. However, according to Louis-Philippe Blanchette’s road tests for Le Guide de l’auto:

“The sound insulation is of high quality and the electric motor clearly contributes to the soothing experience.”

The Mercedes-Benz EQB release date should be known in the coming months.

Technologies Adapted to Electric Driving

One of the strengths of Mercedes-Benz is the quality and innovation of its on-board technologies. This time, it’s an intelligent navigation system designed for electric driving that will be of particular help on board.

In fact, when you enter your destination and the charge you want to stop at, the vehicle plans your stops along the way. In addition to indicating the presence of charging stations, it shows you their availability in real time. Accordingly, the system calculates the fastest route by taking into consideration:

  • Temperature
  • Topography
  • Your driving habits

Regarding infotainment, the winning recipe of the MBUX system remains unchanged with its advanced voice recognition system. It recognizes natural language and allows you to control your car’s settings or get information at any time.

Stay tuned for the release date of the Mercedes-Benz EQB and price in Canada. Your Mercedes-Benz Blainville dealer on the North Shore of Montreal, near Boisbriand and Saint-Jérôme, keeps you up to date!
