The 2027 GLS continues the Mercedes-Benz tradition with a comprehensive redesign that brings S-Class refinement to the full-size SUV segment. This is the vehicle Mercedes-Benz calls the "S-Class of SUVs"—a title that places it at the very top of their luxury SUV hierarchy.

The redesign introduces MB.OS, the new Mercedes-Benz operating system that integrates all vehicle functions through a powerful central supercomputer. The standard MBUX Superscreen spans the entire width of the cabin, featuring three 12.3-inch displays housed under a single, seamless glass surface.

A standout innovation is the cloud-based damper control, which adjusts the AIRMATIC air suspension before the wheels even hit a bump, creating a ride quality where the vehicle seems to float over road imperfections. The upright Mercedes-Benz star makes its return to the hood—an iconic design element borrowed from the S-Class that can be optionally illuminated.

Key Features and Specifications

The 2027 GLS lineup offers two powertrain options, both enhanced for this generation:

  • GLS 450 4MATIC: A 3.0L turbocharged inline-six producing 375 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.
  • GLS 580 4MATIC: A 4.0L V8 developing 530 hp and 553 lb-ft (increases from the 510 hp and 538 lb-ft of the previous generation).

Both engines feature an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG 2.0) that provides an additional 23 hp and 151 lb-ft of support at low speeds. Notably, the GLS 580's V8 now utilizes a flat-plane crankshaft, a configuration typically found in high-end sports cars, paired with two Lanchester balancer shafts to maintain the signature Mercedes-Benz refinement.

A First-Class Interior

Generous dimensions create the space that defines the GLS experience. All three rows of seating are power-adjustable, with the third row comfortably accommodating passengers up to 1.94 m (6'4") tall.

  • MBUX Superscreen: Now standard, it includes a Virtual Assistant capable of complex conversations and navigation powered by Google Maps.
  • Rear Comfort: The available Executive Rear Seat Package Plus offers MBUX remotes and dual 11.6-inch screens for rear passengers.
  • Panoramic Roof: Standard, covering more than 1 m² of glass.
  • Climate Control: An available five-zone system provides third-row passengers with their own dedicated climate zone and ceiling-mounted vents.

Intelligent Technology and Safety

The E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL system (optional on the 580) analyzes the driving situation 1,000 times per second. The sensor suite includes ten cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors, all managed by the AI of the MB.OS system.

The MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST comes standard and can detect parking spots even without white line markings. The Reversing Assistant function also allows the vehicle to automatically retrace its path for a portion of the most recently traveled distance. Finally, the latest generation of DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps are 50% more efficient and project a high-resolution light field.

Customization and Style

New paint finishes such as Dark Petrol and MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red Metallic debut alongside new 21-inch and 22-inch wheel designs. The MANUFAKTUR program allows discerning buyers to further tailor their GLS with exclusive Nappa leathers and unique color palettes.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS defines the luxury SUV segment more than ever, blending digital intelligence with raw power.
