DIGITAL LIGHT, Active Blind Spot Assist, DISTRONIC: What Each 2026 C-Class Includes

Choosing between the C 300 Sedan, the C 300 4MATIC Sedan, and the AMG C 43 4MATIC Sedan involves more than picking a powertrain. The three models in the 2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Canadian lineup differ in what active safety and driver-assist technology they include as standard equipment — and understanding those differences makes it easier to match the right model to the right buyer.

All three share a solid standard safety foundation. The AMG C 43, however, arrives with several features that require an optional package on the C 300 models. This guide breaks down the differences by category, so you can see exactly where the models diverge and what the available Driver Assistance Package Plus adds to each.

Collision Protection

All three C-Class models come with PRE-SAFE and Active Brake Assist as standard. PRE-SAFE detects a potential collision and can tighten seatbelts, adjust front seats, and close windows in advance. Active Brake Assist uses radar to scan for vehicles, stationary objects, and pedestrians — it can alert the driver and apply autonomous braking if needed.

Where the AMG C 43 steps ahead: it includes Active Brake Assist with Turning and Cross-Traffic Function as standard. This extends Active Brake Assist into intersection scenarios, detecting vehicles or pedestrians approaching from either side while turning. On the C 300 models, this enhancement requires the optional Driver Assistance Package Plus.

Blind Spot and Lane Assistance

All three models include Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Lane Change Assist as standard. Active Lane Keeping Assist monitors road markings and can apply selective braking to guide the car back into its lane if unintended drifting is detected. Active Lane Change Assist — when DISTRONIC is active — allows the driver to trigger a lane change by holding the turn signal while the system checks the adjacent lane is clear.

The difference is in blind spot monitoring. The C 300 models come with Blind Spot Assist, which alerts the driver via a mirror icon and audible warning. The AMG C 43 comes standard with Active Blind Spot Assist, which goes further: if a lane change is initiated while a vehicle is detected, the system can actively brake individual wheels to guide the car back. On the C 300 models, Active Blind Spot Assist requires the Driver Assistance Package Plus.

Crosswind Assist is standard across all three — it detects strong lateral gusts at highway speeds and applies corrective braking to keep the car on course.

Active Emergency and Monitoring Systems

ATTENTION ASSIST is standard on all three models. It monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behaviour and alerts the driver if signs of drowsiness are detected on longer trips.

Active Emergency Stop Assist is standard on the AMG C 43. If the driver becomes unresponsive while Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is active, the system can gradually decelerate the vehicle to a stop and activate the hazard flashers. On the C 300 models, this feature requires the Driver Assistance Package Plus.

GUARD 360 Vehicle Protection Plus is standard across all three. It monitors for interior motion, can detect if the vehicle is being towed without authorization, and can take photos using the vehicle's cameras if triggered.

Headlamps and Visibility

This is the most visible difference between the C 300 models and the AMG C 43.

The C 300 Sedan and C 300 4MATIC come with standard Adaptive Highbeam Assist, which activates and deactivates the high beams automatically based on detected traffic ahead.

The AMG C 43 comes standard with DIGITAL LIGHT LED headlamps and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus. DIGITAL LIGHT projects a high-resolution adaptive beam pattern that adjusts in near-real time based on road curvature, speed, steering angle, and detected vehicles. Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus selectively dims portions of the high beam where vehicles are detected, rather than switching the full high beam off — maximizing forward illumination without creating glare for oncoming drivers.

On the C 300 models, DIGITAL LIGHT and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus are available through the optional Pinnacle Trim Package.

What the Driver Assistance Package Plus Adds

Available on all three C-Class models, the Driver Assistance Package Plus unlocks the full active-assist suite for highway and urban driving. On the C 300 models, it delivers the largest jump in active safety capability from the standard spec. On the AMG C 43, several items in the package are already standard — but the core highway-assist features are still added through this package on all three models.

Added on all three models:

  • Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC — radar adaptive cruise control; can follow traffic to a full stop and resume automatically
  • Active Steering Assist — keeps the car centred in its lane while DISTRONIC is active; can follow the vehicle ahead when lane markings are not visible
  • Active Speed Limit Assist — detects posted speed limit signs and can propose automatic speed adjustments
  • Enhanced Stop-and-Go — extends DISTRONIC's hold time at a full stop in traffic before requiring driver input to resume
  • PRE-SAFE PLUS — adds a rear-collision bracing element to PRE-SAFE
  • PRE-SAFE Impulse Side — detects a potential side impact and can move the front seat outboard to increase occupant distance from the impact zone
  • Route-based Speed Adaptation — adjusts cruising speed ahead of corners and speed limit changes using navigation data

Added on C 300 models only (already standard on AMG C 43):

  • Active Blind Spot Assist (with active correction)
  • Active Brake Assist with Turning and Cross-Traffic Function
  • Active Emergency Stop Assist
  • Traffic Sign Assist

Which C-Class Fits Your Priorities?

C 300 Sedan — right for buyers who want rear-wheel drive with a strong standard safety package and the option to expand assist features through packages.

C 300 4MATIC Sedan — the same strong safety foundation with the added confidence of all-wheel drive; the practical choice for buyers in regions with variable road conditions.

AMG C 43 4MATIC Sedan — right for buyers who want the full active safety and lighting package largely in place from delivery, without building it up through options. The C 43's standard spec includes DIGITAL LIGHT, Active Blind Spot Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist — features that add up to a meaningful difference in real-world visibility and collision response.
