A look at the improvements in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the 2024 iterations of its popular compact SUVs, the GLA and GLB. Both models have received substantial updates, blurring the lines between luxury, technology, and performance. Let's take a loo

Exterior Design and Features

2024 GLA: The 2024 GLA showcases a refreshed front and rear design. The new radiator grille with vertical louvres and a horizontal fin emphasizes its powerful character, while the bonnet features subtly suggested power domes. The redesigned front bumper with visual underride protection nods to the GLA's off-road capabilities. Standard LED High Performance headlights and LED rear lights modernize its appearance. Additionally, the GLA offers a new Spectral Blue paint color and several wheel design options, starting with 18-inch five-twin-spoke alloys in high-gloss black.

2024 GLB: The GLB's exterior updates include a redesigned front bumper highlighting its off-road genes and a rugged SUV radiator grille with four horizontal louvres. The new striking full-LED headlights and rear lights enhance its presence. It also introduces the Spectral Blue Metallic paint and additional wheel design options, including 18-inch, 19-inch, and 20-inch choices.

Interior Design and Comfort

Both models share several interior enhancements but with distinctive touches. The interiors of both the GLA and GLB feature the newly standard 10.25-inch instrument cluster and media display, enhancing the cabin's high-tech feel. They boast round air vents in a turbine look, contrasting with straight-lined, off-road-typical interior elements in aluminium. Comfort seats in full ARTICO man-made leather are standard, available in various colors, including the new red pepper combined with black. The AMG Line offers a heated steering wheel rim and seats in ARTICO man-made leather/microfibre MICROCUT.

Technology and Connectivity

The 2024 GLA and GLB are at the forefront of automotive technology with significant improvements made to each model this year.

Both models are equipped with the latest MBUX generation, featuring intuitive operation and adaptive software. This includes newly designed display styles - "Classic," "Sporty," and "Discreet" - providing a customizable driving experience. The system supports wireless connectivity with smartphones via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto Wireless, along with additional USB-C ports for increased charging power.

The intelligent voice assistant has been enhanced for more interactive dialogue and learning capabilities. It can suggest personalized infotainment, comfort, and vehicle functions, adapting to the driver's habits and preferences.

Both models offer the optional Burmester® surround sound system, now featuring Dolby Atmos, providing an immersive audio experience. They also introduce new mini-games available through Mercedes me Connect+ services, turning the SUVs into mobile gaming consoles.

Safety and Driver Assistance

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA: The GLA steps up its safety features with an upgraded Driving Assistance package, which includes more comfortable control of the Lane Keeping Assist through Active Steering Control. The Parking package now supports longitudinal parking and offers a 360-degree visualization option for camera-assisted parking.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB: Similarly, the GLB enhances its safety with an improved Driving Assistance Package, providing more intuitive Lane Keeping Assist. Its next-generation Parking Package also supports longitudinal parking and can be equipped with 360-degree camera visualization.

Powertrain and Performance

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA: The GLA 250's engine features mild hybrid electrification with a 48-volt on-board power supply for the belt-driven starter-generator. This setup allows for additional power, low-vibration engine starting, coasting with the engine off, and efficient energy recuperation.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB: The GLB 250 4MATIC SUV also embraces mild hybrid technology. Its four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission includes a 48-volt electrical system, enhancing its agility and efficiency.
